BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - It's been in the works for more than a decade and now Boston University has completed it's newest addition to campus: the so-called 'Jenga Building.'

The Center for Computing & Data Sciences won't be officially open until January of 2023, but a special ceremony, celebrating the building's completion will be held Thursday, Dec. 8th.

Sitting along the Charles River, BU said they hope the building will add to Boston's skyline. Standing at just 19-stories, the building isn't even half the height of some of the city's tallest buildings. Instead of the sleek 200 Clarendon Street or the iconic glowing Zakim, the building looks more like a pile of stacked books or "a tower of Jenga blocks about to topple over."

Aside from it's unique look, the Center for Computing & Data Sciences will be the most environmentally friendly tower in the city. Deep within it's walls lies an environmentally sound geothermal system, heating and cooling the building without emissions.

The school said it's the greenest building in their history and one of the most sustainable buildings in the whole of New England.

"It shows, it really illustrates that we have the tools today to curb climate change. We're making it happen, we're doing it, others are doing it and this provides an example for others." Dennis Carlberg, Boston University's Sustainablility Director said.
