BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Franciscan Children's Hospital in Brighton is restricting the use of tap water, after potentially harmful bacteria was discovered.
The Department of Public Health says they've been actively working with the hospital to help identify the source of Burkholderia infections.
The Boston Globe reports, the hospital hasn't allowed tap water access in two areas of the pediactric rehab facility since November 22nd, after Burkholderia was detected in two water sources. The bacteria was first detected in the facility in 2019, and the Globe says since then dozens of children have tested positive for it.
DPH tells us this is a highly localized issue and limited to Franciscan.
