ABINGTON (WBZNewsRadio) - It's been an iconic Holiday destination for the last 41 years and after this season, The Christmas Place in Abington is shutting it's doors for good.
Since the store made the closing announcement on Nov. 6th, Christmas lovers of all ages have been filing into the store on Bedford Street for one last season.
"I've been coming here as a kid.. I'm sad, you know I'm happy I got to come here one more time. My kids are inside with my Mom right now, so I'm happy I got to show it for them before it closes." Shopper Andrew Cannon told WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe.
The shop offers everything from Christmas trees to decorations, holiday baked goods and of course visitors are able to meet the big man himself: Santa. The beloved seasonal store is also known for it's larger than life penguin marching band.
Rick and Karen, the couple behind the warehouse-style one-stop Christmas shop are retiring.
"We are truly overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and congratulations from so many of you. We never expected it. We are filled with joy that the Christmas Place was such a part of your family traditions, and we are glad to have shared them." The owners wrote on their website. "We would like to thank you for your loyalty, support and business for the last 41 years. It has been our pleasure to be a part of your life and we are glad that the Christmas Place is a fond part of many of your memories."
Right now, the pair say there are "no plans or talks in place for the future of the business or property."
