DRACUT (WBZNewsRadio) - A 42-year-old Dracut man is facing a slew of charges after allegedly he drove his pickup truck into a Dracut police cruiser Tuesday evening.

Police were called to Broadway Road just before 7:40 p.m., for a report of a red pickup truck being driven erratically in the area. When they arrived, a fully marked cruiser was hit head-in by the red pickup truck. Authorities said Zachary Gaud was unconscious behind the wheel. Officers on scene, administered first aid, including two doses of Narcan before Gaud regained consciousness. Gaud was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

During their investigation, police said Gaud also crashed into another vehicle on Broadway Road. The driver was not injured.

"I am thankful that no one was seriously injured in this incident, which clearly shows the danger of driving under the influence of drugs," said Chief Bartlett. "Drivers who get behind the wheel while impaired put the entire community in danger. We will make every effort to hold those drivers accountable. This crash could have severely injured not only a Dracut Officer but others as well.”

Authorities said Gaud is charged with operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, marked lanes violation, and failure to wear seat belt.

Gaud will be summonsed to court at a later date.
