BROOKLINE (WBZNewsRadio) - Authorities in Brookline have arrested a former town employee after he allegedly bought automotive supplies for personal use, using town funds.
Allan McIntosh was taken into custody last week following a substantial investigation. The 60 year old from Natick is charged with larceny over $1200 by false pretense.
The investigation began earlier this month after personnel at the Brookline Department of Public Works were notified of the alleged crime. Officials say McIntosh allegedly used the town's purchase order to obtain a number of items from an auto parts store located in Framingham.
DPW immediately informed Brookline Police, which opened an investigation.
"This is a deeply disappointing violation of our community's trust," Town Administrator Carey said. "I would like to thank Commissioner Gallentine and the DPW team for their immediate action upon learning of this matter, as well as the Brookline Police Department for its thorough investigation. We are committed to ensuring this does not happen again."
The town of Brookline said they will next review and reevaluate the processes and procedures in place to approve purchase orders. Next steps include ordering a regular reviews with vendors' parent companies to better recognize any usual or suspicious activity on any town accounts.
"Not only is this a total abuse of the Town's trust by an employee that received gainful employment for over nine years, but it is a grace insult to the honest and hardworking men and women of Public Works that serve this community with integrity every day." DPW Commissioner Erin Chute Gallentine said.
McIntosh was arraigned in Brookline District Court and released on his own recognizance. He's expected back in court for a pre-trial hearing on April 19.
