Norfolk Police Arrest Man Over Dangling Box Truck At Gas Station

NORFOLK (WBZNewsRadio) — (UPDATED 11:30 a.m. 4/20/23)

A Rhode Island driver involved in a crash that left a box truck dangling over the side of a retaining wall yesterday afternoon is under arrest. Thursday morning the Norfolk Police Department announced that the Rhode Island driver is charged for allegedly operating under the influence.

Police say 54-year-old Keith Johnson of East Greenwich drove his truck into a traffic island before entering Daley's Service Center and striking a gas pump and two other vehicles and an aerial lift. Finally the truck smashed through a fence on the station's perimeter, to hang over the side.

In addition to the OUI charge, Johnson faces indictments for failure to wear a seatbelt, a marked lanes violation, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

According to officials, no one was hurt injured in the crash.

Johnson was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be okay.
