TOWNSEND (WBZNewsRadio) - A New Hampshire man is facing a number of charges after allegedly fleeing an attempted traffic stop, before crashing into a home on Elm Street in Townsend. Thankfully no one was at home at the time of the crash.

Townsend police said officers tried to pull over a speeding Buick Encore near the Lunenburg town line, but the driver allegedly refuse to stop and took off. Police pursued the car for a short time, but terminated the chase due to safety concerns.

A few minutes later, authorities were informed a vehicle matching the speeding Buick's description had crashed into a home on Elm Street. When officers arrived, they placed Dennis Legere, of Mason, New Hampshire, into custody. The 46 year old is charged with speeding, failure to stop for police, OUI liquor (second offense), the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating to endanger and a marked lanes violation.

Police also discovered Legere is wanted by the Leominster police department on unrelated charges.

Legere was booked by Townsend police this morning and bail was set at $5,000 and will be transferred into the custody of Leominster Police. He'll be arraigned on the Townsend charges in Ayer District Court at a later date.
