MARION, Mass (WBZNewsRadio) - Students attending Sippican Elementary School in Marion have the day off, after a sprinkler malfunction caused water damage throughout the school.
The Marion Fire Department responded to the school Tuesday evening just before 8:15 p.m. The crew shut down the broken sprinkler on the second floor, but the damage had already been done. Officials said there was extensive water damage to classrooms on both the first and second floors.
"We are grateful to first responders and town officials for all of their assistance," Superintendent Michael Nelson said. "The quick actions of the Marion Fire Department prevented even more damage from taking place."
School officials will be updating families regarding the rest of the school week via email and via the district website.
