BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - The MBTA has announced a number of service changes taking place through out the month of June. These changes will allow crews to continue their ongoing track improvement work across the entire transit system.

These changes will impact the Red, Green, Orange, Kingston, Middleborough, Greenbush, Lowell, and Fairmount lines.

Starting on the Red line, shuttle bus service will replace Red Line trains between JFK/UMass and North Quincy Stations weekday evenings starting at 8:45 p.m. between May 30-June 1 and then again between June 5-8. Crews will take on critical rail and tie replacement work allowing the MBTA to remove speed restrictions.

The Commuter Rail lines that run adjacent to the Red Line, including the Kingston, Middleborough and Greenbush lines, will also see shuttle bus service replace evening weekday trains. Shuttles will provide service on the Commuter rail between South Station and Braintree after 7 p.m. between May 30-June 2 and then again between June 5-9.

The MBTA will also offer express shuttle bus service which will give passengers a lift directly from South Station to Braintree Station.

Shuttle buses will replace service on the Lowell Commuter Rail line from Wilmington to Lowell Stations over the weekend of June 3-4. During this time, crews will perform Automatic Train Control (ATC) work. The federally mandated system will alert trains to potentially unsafe conditions and automatically slow down or even stop an oncoming train if needed.

On the Fairmount Commuter Rail line, shuttle bus service will replace trains from South Station to Readville Stations June 9-11.

On the Green line, trains running on both GLX branches between Government Center and Union Square, as well as Medford/Tufts Stations during the weekends of June 3-4 and June 10-11, will be replaced with shuttle busses. Due to traffic, outbound shuttle busses will not stop at Haymarket.

Orange and Green line service will continue to feel the impacts of the ongoing demolition of the Government Center Garage. Service changes will take place in downtown Boston for a span of two weeks between June 12-25.

During that time, Green line service will be suspended between North Station and Government Center and Orange line trains will bypass Haymarket Station.

Passengers should expect additional repair work and service changes to take place later in the month, and more information will be provided at a later date.

Just a reminder, bicycles are not allowed on shuttle buses and Transit Ambassadors along with MBTA and Keolis staff members will be stationed at several sites across the system to provide assistance and help support riders.
