STONEHAM, Mass (WBZNewsRadio) - It was a busy afternoon for fire officials in Stoneham after a 4-acre brush fire broke out in the Middlesex Fells Reservation.
Smoke was reported in the area of Executive Drive and the Reservation around 3 p.m.
Crews battled exhausting heat and water issues. Without access to a hydrant, firefighters extended their hose lines into the forest to fight the flames.
By 6:30 p.m. Thursday evening, the fires were under control and knocked down. No injuries were reported.
The cause remains under investigation.
Earlier in the day, state officials announced they are investigating a series of recent fires in the Blue Hills Reservation as suspicious.
In mid-May, a $5,000 reward was offered for any information on eight fires, officials believe were intentionally set at Lynn Woods Reservation in Lynn.
