NATICK, Mass (WBZNewsRadio) - Wegmans has announced the closing of it's Natick store later this summer. The company said the "non-traditional" location inside the Natick Mall failed to attract enough business for the location to thrive.

"Making these decisions is never easy. However, we do it for the long-term benefit of our people, our customers, and our communities," said Brien MacKendrick, human resources director, Wegmans New England division. "Unfortunately, with this non-traditional location we were unable to attract enough customers for our business model to work."

The 365 employees at the Natick location have all been offered positions at other area Wegmans. The exact closure date has yet to be announced.

The store inside the Natick mall first opened in 2018, as Wegmans' first multi-level store within a major mall. The 134,000 square foot location is one the company's largest locations across the country.

As for the future, Wegmans is hopeful they'll be able to find a new location in the same area.

"We love our Natick community and customers, and we're eager to pursue new store locations in the area for the future," said MacKendrick. "In the meantime, we hope to continue to serve our Natick customers through our e-commerce offerings and our other area stores"

There are currently five other locations in the Greater-Boston area and there are no plans to close any other stores.
