BELMONT, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - It was an incredibly busy Friday afternoon for Belmont's Fire Department, after first responders were called to a car crash and house fire on the same street.
The first call came in just after 3:15 p.m. Belmont Fire and Police both responded to a car crash on Newton Street and discovered a vehicle had slammed into a parked car, before landing partially on top of it. The driver was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.
Meantime, around 3:44 p.m., a neighbor came running up the street where firefighters were working to stabilize the crash scene and told them a nearby home was on fire. Firefighters immediately headed up the street to find thick, heavy smoke pouring from the house.
Firefighters searched the home and were able to rescue two cats. None of the residents were home at the time of the blaze.
No word on what may have sparked the fire.
