Service Resumes After Red Line Train Catches Fire At Charles/MGH

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio)Train service has resumed on the Red Line Thursday morning after a fire under a train at Charles/MGH Station.

The MBTA said a Red Line operator reported smoke coming out from underneath the first car in their northbound train at about 5:50 a.m. The Boston Fire Department was called to the scene and said they put out the fire.

MBTA Spokesperson Joe Pesaturo said the smoke came from an air compressor control box on the train, but said that there was no confirmation of actual flames.

The Boston Fire Department said there were no injuries as passengers evacuated the station. Power to the electrified third rail was shut off.
