This Weekend: Edward Hopper, Shakespeare On The Common, Pickleball And More

BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - Where, oh where has July gone? And with the rain expected to clear out by Saturday, the beach is calling. Not a beach person? Not to worry, there are plenty of other fantastic events happening this weekend, that are sure to leave you with summer 2023 memories.

FRIDAY

Luke Combs Rocks At Gillette Stadium

The weekend officially kicks off Friday night at Gillette, when Country superstar Luke Combs makes his Foxboro debut. Performing both Friday and Saturday night, the CMA entertainer of the year will have a number of special guests including The Avett Brothers, Gary Allan and David Lee Murphy on Friday. Joining him Saturday, Riley Green, Lainey Wilson, Flatland Cavalry and Brent Cobb will take the stage.

Friday night's show will coincide with commuter traffic and stadium officials are strongly encouraging concert-goers to plan accordingly. The MBTA is offering special commuter train tickets from both Boston and Providence for Saturday night's show, tickets are still available on the T's mTicket app.

SATURDAY

Andover Pickleball Tournament.

If you haven't joined the pickleball bandwagon, this weekend the Andover Recreation Department is hosting a unified pickleball tournament to raise money for Special Olympics Massachusetts. The event will pair 40 Special Olympic athletes with 40 pickleball players.

“Whether you donate, volunteer, or play, I can guarantee you two things: you will definitely have fun, and you will find all the activities to be extremely rewarding,” said Bill Kane, a pickleball coach to a Special Olympics athlete.

Edward Hopper Returns To Cape Ann

It's being called a "once-in-a-generation" exhibition of Edward Hopper's work and it's opening on what would have been his 141st Birthday. "Edward Hopper & Cape Ann" will highlight the American painter's early relationship with the beautiful north shore that inspired so much of his early work. The exhibit contains more than 60 works,

Saturday Morning Sweat: Yoga at Revere Hotel.

The roof of the Revere Hotel in Boston is hosting free yoga classes every Saturday through the summer. Whether you're a skilled yogi or just trying to catch a moment of calm, participants will have quite the view for the morning stretch. Organizers say mats will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.

SoWa Boston Food Truck & Craft Beer Festival

Whatever it is you're craving, you'll most likely find it this Saturday at Sowa's Food truck and craft beer festival. Cuisine from Kowloon, Tandoor and Curry on Wheels, Moyzilla and more will pull up and feed the crowds.

Dudley Jazz Festival in Dorchester

Some of Boston's best and brightest jazz musicians will be showcasing their skills at Dorchester's annual Dudley Jazz Festival. This year's line-up includes performances by Beacon Bop from UMass Boston, Pat Loomis, The Fred Woodard Collective and others.

Shakespeare On The Common: Macbeth.

Once again the Boston Common will become a stage from Wednesdays through Sundays through out the summer, for it's annual "Shakespeare on the Common" show. This summer, the story of Macbeth comes to the Common, telling the tale of Macbeth on a murderous quest to become the King of Scotland.

Seaport x Black Owned Bos. Outdoor Market.

For a fourth year, the Black Owned Bos. Market returns to the Seaport neighborhood with more than 60 vendors one Sunday a month. This month's theme is "Summer Fun" and will be sure to include something for everyone in the family.

Take A Car-Free Stroll Down Newbury Street.

Newbury Street will once again go car-free this Sunday as part of the city of Boston's Open Streets Initiative. The mile-long, eight-block stretch offers shopping, dining, and galleries galore.

Muddy River Clean-Up With Baby Goats.

What could be better than helping keep our planet clean with live baby goats in tow. The Muddy Water Initiative is hosting it's annual WATERGOAT Launch. Attendees are encouraged to bring the whole family, including the dog, and an can-do attitude.
