GROVELAND, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - A juvenile is facing charges after allegedly shooting a pair of children with a splatter ball gun last weekend.

Groveland police responded to the area of Main and Broad Streets on Saturday, July 15, just after 8 p.m. There they found two children who told officers while they were walking down the street, a passenger of a passing vehicle rolled down their window and shot at them.

Both children were left with bruises.

Groveland Police said they've identified that passenger as a juvenile and has issued a summons to appear in Lawrence Juvenile Court in August.

Authorities said they believe the incident was inspired by a current trend on social media.

“It’s troubling to think it’s considered acceptable to scare and potentially hurt someone just to get attention on social media,” Chief Gillen said. “We ask parents to be aware of what their children are doing, and ask the public to contact us any time they see behavior they think is suspicious.”

This is the second incident involving pellet or splatter ball guns this summer. Back on June 17, police responded to Main Street and Elm Park for a report of someone firing pellets at people in the area. A juvenile from Dracut was arrested and charged.

At this time, it does not appear the two incidents are related.
