GLOUCESTER, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - When the Cape Ann Museum decided to put on a special exhibition of Edward Hopper's work, there was only one problem; the museum had only one Hopper painting in it's collection. Thanks to the Whitney Museum and 27 other donors from around the country, "Edward Hopper & Cape Ann" is now open in Gloucester.
"In our 148 year history this is the single largest exhibition that we have ever tried to mount." Oliver Barker, Director of the Cape Ann Museum told WBZ's Kendall Buhl. "And so I do hope that visitors when they come over these next twelve weeks, will have the chance really to understand the important inspiration that Cape Ann played in changing his career but also most importantly the trajectory of American art."
“Edward Hopper & Cape Ann” opened last weekend and will run through October 16th, featuring some 65-works, including paintings, drawings and prints from both Hopper and his wife Josephine "Jo" Nivison. The couple lived in Gloucester from 1923 to 1928.
