BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - The weekend is finally here. And after the last few days of oppressive heat, many of us are looking at how we can continue to cool off.

From Revere Beach's annual International Sand Sculpting Festival, to the NAACP's National Convention, A Star Wars concert on the Cape, to a free cardio dance class on Carson Beach, there's something for everyone in the family.

FRIDAY

Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival.

Start your weekend Friday morning at Revere Beach for the annual International Sand Sculpting Festival running through Sunday. Competitors from around the world will descend upon the sand to create massive sculptures to dazzle spectators. This year, Blue Man Group will perform as headliners on Friday night on the King Kong Stage.

Summer Movie Nights At “Old Ironsides” Returns.

Tis the season of outdoor movies, so why not catch a flick on the USS Constitution! Starting Friday night, the ship and museum will show a series of outdoor movies, delivering a one-of-a-kind experience.

  • July 28Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Gates open at 7:45 pm.
  • August 11Moana. Gates open at 7:20 pm.
  • September 8: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Gates open at 6:40 pm.

The NAACP at the Hub

“Experience the intersection of Black culture and social impact at the Hub” this weekend. Running from Friday, July 28, through Sunday, July 30, the NAACP is hosting a free and open event at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Complete with a Block-Party style celebration with DJ Jazzy Jeff, there will be shopping, networking opportunities and free giveaways and prizes.

Lowell Folk Festival.

One of the nation’s longest free folk festivals returns this weekend, bringing music, dance, crafts and food to downtown Lowell. Starting Friday, July 28th and running through Sunday, July 30th, the festival is expected to feature music from around the world, including Portuguese fado, Greek, Cajun and music from Afghanistan. The best part? It’s completely free.

SATURDAY

Massachusetts Senior Games Hosts First Softball Tournament.

The non-profit based in Northborough offers Olympic-style competition for adults over 40 years old and for the first time, Massachusetts Senior Games is hosting a softball tournament throughout the weekend. Players from all over the state will gather and compete for medals.

Games run both Saturday and Sunday and start at 9:00 a.m., Green Hills Park, Worcester.

STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE In Concert on the Cape.

Return to a galaxy far, far away this weekend as the Cape Symphony performs Star Wars: A New Hope, in concert. With performances on both Saturday and Sunday at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center, attendees are encouraged to show up in their best Star Wars gear.

By the way, if you do come in costume, you won’t be alone. Members of the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion are expected to attend.The group has been known to attend Star Wars events around the world, and recently made appearances at Fenway Park and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Silence The Violence Summer Classic.

This weekend marks the 14th annual Silence the Violence Summer Classic Tournament weekend at Marcella Park. Starting at 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday, the event calls itself the largest basketball tournament and anti-violence weekend in Boston

Enjoy Korean Comfort Food At Farthest Star Sake.

Did you know Medfield is home to New England’s only sake brewery and taproom? Not only is their sake delicious, but it’s gluten free. This Saturday, the taproom is hosting a pop-up featuring Damgeuda Korean Comfort food.

Brookline Community Parkfest

Boston Children's Museum Summer Carnival

Summer is well underway and this Saturday the Boston Children’s Museum is hosting a summer night full of games, performances and fun for the whole family.

Tickets are $30 and include admission, access to exhibits, and six game tickets.

15th Annual Yankee Homecoming Brewfest.

Cashman Park and Baseball field will be transformed into one big party, as the city of Newburyport hold it’s annual Yankee Homecoming Brewfest. Rain or shine, attendees will get sample beer from more than 20 breweries.

Tickets are $40 and include entry and beer samples, food will be available for purchase. Interestingly enough, this year the city is offering a discounted ticket for designated drivers attending the event, those tickets are just $25 per person.
