State Police Searching For Suspect In Connection To Waltham Assault

WALTHAM, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Authorities are searching for a suspect in connection to an assault along the Charles River in Waltham last month.

The assault happened on the evening of Sunday, July 30th, around 8:45 p.m. in the area of Newton and Farwell Streets. A female victim told police she heard footsteps approaching, before she was grabbed from behind by an assailant, who tried to cover her mouth.

She was able to scream and get free, sending the suspect running in the opposite direction. Police searched the area in the hours after the attack and found nothing.

Authorities say the woman did the right thing by screaming.

"If you see anything or anyone suspicious call 911 immediately. If you are assaulted, if at all possible scream, make noise, and fight back." State Police said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man, in his late 20's or early 30's, standing around 5'7''.

State Police are urging the public to be aware of their surroundings, especially walking in any public space alone, in the evening hours. Authorities recommend making sure you have a charged cell phone accessible, forgo wearing any headphones, and consider carrying pepper spray or an emergency whistle.
