BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The search is over for the adorable chihuahua, Alejandro, who was dognapped from his owner from the South End last weekend.
Alejandro was first reported missing just before 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 5th, in the area of 15 Westland Avenue. Since then, authorities have been combing the area, searching for the small pooch.
Earlier this week George Regan, President and CEO, announced he was offering up a reward of $2,500 for any information leading to the safe return of Alejandro.
"We just want to see the puppy safely returned, no questions asked," Regan said.
On Thursday morning, Boston police got a tip from someone, saying they'd spotted the chihuahua in the area of Old Colony Avenue. When they arrived in the area, officers recognized a woman matching the description of a suspect, originally seen walking away with the dog on surveillance video.
Officers approached the woman and asked her if she knew where the dog was. Speaking to a Sergeant Detective, she said she didn't know it's whereabouts. When the Sergeant informed the woman of the reward being offered, she changed her tune, telling the detective she wanted the money first. After a few minutes of back and forth, the woman surrendered the dog to authorities.
Police arrested 24-year-old Emily Sardo, who had an active warrant for her arrest stemming from another case.
She's expected to be arraigned in South Boston District court.
