BROOKLINE, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - The Town of Brookline is reminding residents of it's Green Dog Program, giving both dog's and their owners' more opportunity to go off-leash, through out the community.
Brookline has more than a dozen off-leash areas, all offering specific hours and monitored by the Park and Recreation Commission.
"The Park and Recreation Commission has the authority to temporarily or permanently close, or modify the boundaries of off-leash areas for any reason including the following: environmental damage, failure to comply with rules and regulations, public health or safety, or serious unanticipated problems affecting other park users." The Town wrote on it's website. "Violators are subject to incremental fines, removal from the off-leash area, and suspension or forfeiture of off-leash privileges."
Dog owners, as well as commercial dog walkers, are required to register and pay an annual fee to participate in the program, annual fees range from $100-$200. 2-Day and 1-week permits are also available for both residents and non-residents. There is also financial assistance available to those who many need it.
What's more the program has a 24/7 Green Dog hotline, which humans can call to ask about any potential closures or changes in off-leash boundaries. The Green Dog hotline is 617-879-4850
