SAUGUS, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Two Saugus Police officers are receiving praise after their calm courageousness in the face of danger, saved a drowning man.
On the evening of Monday, August 14th, police got a 911 call, saying a man had jumped off the Fox Hill Bridge and was in the Saugus River, Both Police and Fire responded to the area, but were unable to find the man.
Twenty minutes later, Officer Ryan Bancroft spotted the man in the water near the Fox Hill Yacht Club. The man was thrashing in the water, yelling for help as he struggled to keep his head above the waves.
Both Officer Bancroft and another Officer Athanasios Limbanovnous jumped into the water and were able to pull the man to safety.
"If it were not for the calmness, courage and quick actions displayed by Officer Bancroft and Officer Limbanovnolus the man would have succumbed to drowning." Saugus Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli said. "Our department is grateful for Officers Bancroft and Limbanovnous. These two police officers performed their duties in an exemplary manner and with utmost professionalism. Our department and community commend them for a job well done."
