BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - After undergoing a successful surgery to mend a "broken heart" earlier this week, adorable one-year-old "Suki" will soon be ready to find her forever home.
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle mix, also known as a Cavapoo, was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), which creates an blood vessel outside the heart and is deadly if left untreated. The pooch was surrendered to the MSPCA-Angell in May, after her owner found they were unprepared to handle the medical issues associated with the illness.
“It’s a good thing that Suki was brought to us when she was,” said Dr. Caroline Choi of Angell Animal Medical Center’s surgery service. “The longer the condition goes untreated, the worse it gets and, if left untreated long enough, it can eventually lead to congestive heart failure.”
Suki went under the knife on Wednesday, Aug. 16th at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston and is expected to have a long and happy life.
Soon she'll be ready for adoption and the MSPCA is expecting a high-demand for the Cavapoo. Instead of physically coming to a shelter, the organization is asking anyone interested in little Suki to submit an inquiry.
“We’ve also got dozens of amazing dogs who are looking for homes now,” Mike Keiley, MSPCA Director of Adoption Centers and Programs said. “If anyone out there has space in their heart and home to adopt a dog today, please stop by our open hours.”
