Manchester Essex High School Students Create Bowls for My Brother’s Table

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - My Brother's Table has a brand new set of ceramic bowls all thanks to students at Manchester Essex High School.

Nearly three dozen students took part in the Empty Bowls fundraiser, creating handmade bowls for the largest soup kitchen on the North Shore. The fundraiser began in 1980 by a teacher who wanted to give art students an opportunity to raise funds for local soup kitchens through art and creativity.

"Our students very much enjoyed this work as they paired learning to throw bowls on a pottery wheel, while also helping others," said art teacher Tamera Burns. "This project was an excellent way to connect learning new skills with also learning to make a positive contribution as a member of the community."

Since it's creation in 1982, My Brother's Table has fed more than 6.7 million men, women and children in need.
