WELLFLEET, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The National Park Service (NPS) has released a new report revealing roughly 4 million people visited the Cape Cod National Seashore last year, and spent $548 million dollars in nearby communities.
“Since 1916, the National Park Service has been entrusted with the care of our national parks. With the help of volunteers and partners, we safeguard these special places and share their stories with more than 300 million visitors every year. The impact of tourism to national parks is undeniable: bringing jobs and revenue to communities in every state in the country and making national parks an essential driver to the national economy,” said National Park Service Director Chuck Sams.
The money spent helped support some 6,680 jobs in the area and contributed to the overall local economy of $750 million dollars.
“People come to Cape Cod National Seashore to relax on the beaches, recreate on trails, learn about its history, and immerse themselves in the diverse culture of this special place,” said Superintendent Brian Carlstrom. “We recognize that this tourism is a critical driver to the local economy, bringing 6,680 jobs and $750 million dollars revenue to communities within 60 miles of the park.”
