MAYNARD, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Police in Maynard are asking for the public's help to identify what they're calling "an organized group of suspects" who were involved in the crash of a stolen vehicle on Wednesday morning.
Authorities responded around 3:30 a.m. to Christmas Motors, after a caller reported cars were being broken into and stolen from the location. When officers arrived, they discovered a number of cars blocking the road way. They also witnessed a couple of vehicles leaving the area and began pursuit.
Officers were able to follow one of the cars on Rt 27, as it turned the wrong way onto Main Street and crashed. The driver got out of the car and took off running.
Help quickly arrived from NEMLEC K-9's, Acton, Stow, Sudbury and Massachusetts State Police, to assist in the search for the suspect. Officials said because of the terrain and weather conditions, they were unable to find the driver.
Police said their preliminary investigation found the suspects showed up in Maynard with stolen vehicles out of Sudbury and Leominster including:
- A white BMW X4, which was stolen from Sudbury and later found unoccupied in Worcester late Wednesday morning.
- A white Chrysler Pacific, which was stolen from Leominster and later found unoccupied and recovered in Fitchburg late Wednesday morning.
- A gray Dodge Ram 4-door, which was stolen from Maynard and later found unoccupied and recovered in Maynard.
- A gray Toyota Rav4, which was stolen from Leominster and has not been found at this time.
- A gray Toyota Avalon, which was stolen from Maynard and recovered in Maynard following motor vehicle crash.
Authorities believe there were somewhere between 8-10 suspects and are looking for two other stolen vehicles from Leominster.
