HOPKINTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Authorities in MetroWest once again are urging residents to remain alert while walking along local trails with their dogs or kids after a coyote snatched a dog, the second in two days. A similar incident happened in Milford on Wednesday while walking with it's owner on Pine Island Road.

The latest incident took place Thursday afternoon when a coyote grabbed one of two dogs being walked by their owner. A Hopkinton police officer tried to help the woman locate her missing pup, but was unsuccessful.

Now authorities are urging pet owners and parents to take special care when they go walking in the areas of the Whisper Way trail, and the yellow and red trails of the Cameron Woods, which are considered to be a coyote's natural habitat.

Among their suggestions: keep dogs leashed, carry a stick, and make noise by either whistling, stomping or even singing. One thing that shouldn't be done is attempt to run away, since it could trigger a coyote to give chase.
