BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) – A 34-year-old man is in custody after an MBTA RIDE vehicle was stolen in Woburn and crashed in Boston yesterday.

Transit Police believe the operator of the RIDE vehicle left the car with the keys still in the ignition, near 2 Elm Street in Woburn. That's when authorities allege the suspect got into the driver's seat and headed to Boston. State Police caught up with the driver in the O'Neill Tunnel and witnessed the driver crash into several cars, as well as the wall of the tunnel, before taking off further down Route 93.

Massachusetts State Police Troopers discovered the RIDE vehicle at Mercantile Street and Surface Road. The driver got out and ran into the Bostonian Hotel. A few minutes later, authorities were able to find the man hiding in a function room within the hotel and arrested him without incident.

A single adult female passenger, who has intellectual challenges, was in the vehicle during the incident and called 911 for assistance. She was transported to a local hospital for care but received no life-threatening issues.

No other injuries have been reported despite approximately three other vehicles sustaining damage.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
