BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — As Hurricane Lee makes its way up the East Coast, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the southern Massachusetts coast from Woods Hole to Hull, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.
NWS also said a Storm Surge Watch is in effect for Cape Cod and Nantucket, which means there is a possibility of life-threatening inundation from rising water moving inland from the coastline.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu hosted a press conference Thursday morning to inform Bostonians of the latest projections.
“This morning we received an update from the NWS that the storm has turned slightly east, so at this time we are expecting the worst of it to miss Boston,” said Wu. “Current projects have the storm arriving late on Friday evening, and lasting through Saturday evening, with the storm peaking late Friday into the early hours of Saturday morning.”
