Jaffrey, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — New Hampshire Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers rescued a woman at Monadnock State Park on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Barre, Mass. resident Cynthia Bissell fell and sustained a serious head injury while descending Mount Monadnock. The 65-year-old’s hiking companion called for help.
A Mountain Patrol Ranger and a volunteer hiked to Brissell’s location. The ranger requested a medical helicopter due to the severity of her injuries.
Conservation Officers and members of the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team continued to hike to Brissell’s location in the event that a helicopter landing was not possible.
The Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) had to abort their initial attempt to land at 2:50 p.m. due to inclement weather. DHART picked up Brissell once weather conditions improved at the summit at 4:45 p.m. and transferred her to Concord Hospital.
The NH Fish and Game Department said the helicopter extraction helped Brissell reach hospital care several hours sooner than if she had to be carried down.
