BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - A man from Rhode Island will spend the next seven years of his life behind bars for his role in a national drug trafficking scheme that hid contraband inside toy trucks, Disney merchandise and Halloween decorations.

Nathan Boddie appeared in a Boston courtroom this week and was sentenced to seven years in prison and three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, officials began investigating the drug trafficking ring back in April 2022, when authorities alleged Boddie and others, including Denise Guyette and Gerardo Garza, conspired to traffic a number of controlled substances, including fentanyl and methamphetamine across Massachusetts and Rhode Island. During the investigation into the drug trafficking operation, authorities discovered the scheme often used the mail to ship illegal drugs locally to as far away as Arizona. The drugs were often hidden within children's toys including, trucks and Disney merchandise.

Between May and October of 2022, authorities seized more than 900 grams of methamphetamine, thousands of fentanyl pills, and what is believed to be Dimethyltryptamine, a psychedelic.

Boddie, Guyette and Garza were indicted by a federal grand jury in February of 2023. Boddie was taken into custody a short time later, after being pulled over by authorities in Rhode Island. Officers found a weapons and said he tried to swallow a plastic bag of methamphetamine during the arrest.

Boddie pleaded guilty to drug charges in May 2023. Last month, Garza pleaded guilty to a superseding indictment that charged both him and Guyette with conspiracy to distribute. Guyette pleaded not guilty and is still awaiting trial.
