BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Wednesday afternoon, the Boston College Swim and Dive team was suspended indefinitely due to hazing allegations.

According to a statement released by Boston College, University administrators determined that hazing occurred within the program. Both the women’s and men’s teams were suspended indefinitely.

During the suspension, Swimming and Diving student-athletes will still have access to the academic and medical resources provided to all Boston College student-athletes.

The allegations will be investigated by the Office of the Dean of Students. No additional information has been released about what activities led to the suspension.

In Massachusetts, hazing is defined as “any conduct or method of initiation into any student organization, whether on public or private property, which willfully or recklessly endangers the physical or mental health of any student or other person.”

Participants in hazing can receive up to a $3,000 fine and up to one year in a house of correction. Witnesses of hazing who fail to report the crime can receive up to a $1,000 fine.
