READING, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - For the 27th year, the Reading Police department will once again offer free self-defense classes for female residents next month.

The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) program teaches students quick and effective defense tactics for the most common forms of attack and assault, including domestic violence and sexual assault.

"We are proud to offer this course on a continuing basis, as we seek to help women in our community protect themselves and build confidence," said Chief David Clark. "I'm thankful for the longtime support the Women's League of Reading has provided this program, and urge community members to participate."

The program is made possible by donations and support from organizations like the Women's League of Reading, who has been supporting the program for years.

The October class will be taught over the course of four nights:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 12, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 6:30-9:30 p.m.
