TIVERTON, R.I. (WBZNewsRadio) - Tiverton police officers have a new resource at the touch of a button, giving officers access to a plethora of support when it comes to their mental health and wellbeing. The PowerLine app was created specifically for first responders, providing the hard working men and women a life-line to a network of volunteers 24/7.
"The wellbeing of our officers is a top priority for the department, and it is important that we have the recourses and tools in place to assist people where they are on their wellness journey," said Lt. John LeDuc. "We are confident that PowerLine will be a valuable tool to empower officers to access the support and resources they need to work through the toughest parts of the job and continue to best serve our community."
The app provides users an anonymous platform to voice their concerns without judgement or the stigma that often comes along with asking for help.
"The app also provides department leadership with valuable insights into how PowerLine is being used with a dashboard of anonymized data showing how often the app is accessed and topics with the most engagement." Tiverton police said. "Leadership can then address common themes and drive future wellness initiatives while officer data remains anonymous."
The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found suicide is the leading cause of death in the United States. Certain careers, like being a member of law enforcement, are proven to face a greater risk of suicide, in part due a greater likelihood of being exposed to traumatic events and emergency situations that can often be triggering.
