FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - New England Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez has been named the Defensive Rookie of the month by the NFL.
He's the fifth Patriots player to earn the honor and the third defensive player to win a rookie of the month award. He joins the likes of Mac Jones, Chandler Jones, Jerod Mayo and Deion Branch.
Gonzalez has had quite the season thus far, starting in the first three games. He has 16 total tackles, one sack, one interception and three passes defensed. In the first game of the season, the CB sacked QB Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles. It was his first career NFL sack.
During week 2 against Miami, Gonzalez made his first interception in the fourth quarter when he grabbed hold of a deep pass made by Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa, heading for Tyreek Hill.
He remains the only rookie with a pass defensed in each week of the first three weeks of the season.
