SWANSEA, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Authorities in Swansea are warning residents after several incidents within the community where people allegedly posed as utility company employees in order to get inside their homes.
Police said they are looking into two separate incidents involving the strangers posing as utility workers. Both victims told people they were approached by two men, driving a white van. In each situation, the person tried to get inside the house and steal from the resident. In one instance, the person did gain entry into the residents home and was able to get away with property.
"Through their investigation, Swansea Police determined that one suspect has attempted to distract the homeowner while the other collected valuable items throughout the residence. ." Swansea police said.
Police are urging residents to be aware of who may be coming into their homes, especially if they're offering to do any sort of unsolicited utility work. If someone does show up, Police suggest being calm but firm and tell them you're not interested in their services. If for some reason, the person is aggressive, insistent they come inside, or refuses to leave, police ask residents give them a call.
