Firefighter Injured After Massive Fire Tears Through Wayland Auto Body Shop

WAYLAND, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - A firefighter is recovering from a leg injury after a massive blaze inside an auto body shop on Main Street in Wayland Tuesday afternoon.

Wayland Fire Department responded to the shop at 116 Main Street just before 4 p.m. Firefighters were met with heavy smoke and flames shooting from the back of the building. Thankfully everyone made it safety out of the building.

"Due to multiple explosions inside the building, Wayland Firefighters adopted a defensive posture, battling the fire from outside the building while working to project two other adjacent commercial properties." Wayland Fire said. "Firewalls separating the other two businesses from the auto body shop appear to have their done their job and helped Wayland Firefighters prevent the blaze from spreading."

One firefighter was injured in the incident and is expected to be ok.

The fire was under control around 7 p.m. with the help from nearby Sudbury, Sherborn, Framingham, Lincoln, Weston, Marlborough and Concord Fire departments.

No word on what started the fire, the investigation is ongoing.
