HOLYOKE, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Authorities are investigating a brazen daylight shooting in Holyoke, after a pregnant woman was struck by gunfire, resulting in the loss of her unborn child.

Police were called to the 100 block of Sargeant Street around 12:38 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.

"It appears three male suspects were involved in an altercation, during which a shooting occurred. It is believed one of the rounds from that altercation struck a public transportation bus and an uninvolved female occupant, who was seated in the bus." Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said.

The female occupant, a pregnant woman, was rushed to the hospital where the baby was delivered. Unfortunately the child passed away.

Officials say all the suspects involved in the terrible incident have been identified and are in custody.

The shooting came just hours after the Police department released a call to residents to call 911 when they hear gunfire. The ask comes after recent data from the Holyoke Police department's new surveillance system highlighted only 12 percent of shootings were actually reported by residents.

This is a developing story.
