LYNN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — There were a lot of grateful parents who helped themselves to free Halloween costumes thanks to a woman in Lynn, Mass.

Christy Merryman welcomed community members into her home this past weekend to pick out costumes and enjoy some pizza. This is the fifth year Merryman has done this.

“Throughout the year I take collections for costumes, gently used costumes, from people in Lynn,” said Merryman.

Parents appreciated what Merryman has done for the community, as the cost of everything continues to increase.

“Costumes this year are like $80 apiece and they only wear it once. We barely make it raising kids nowadays, so something like this is very beneficial,” said one grateful parent.

When asked why she does this every year, Merryman said she has made it her annual duty.

“I love my community, I love my city, that’s what I do,” said Merryman.
