WORCESTER, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - A man from Boston is under arrest and facing a number of charges after Worcester police said he stole a Worcester Police bike, while posing as a construction worker.

It was around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday when a Worcester police officer on patrol spotted a man walking through a secure basement area of Union Station. The man was wearing a red hard hat, safety glasses and other clothing items a person working construction might wear at a project site. The man was also carrying what appeared to be a Worcester Police bike.

When police confronted the man, he identified himself as 29-year-old Nathaniel Gaye and claimed he was part of a construction crew currently working in the area.

"Mr. Gaye did have a good explanation as to why he was moving a Worcester Police bike," Worcester Police said. "The officer called for assistance and saw that Mr. Gaye had several other items in a cart. Officers determined that Mr. Gaye did not have a legitimate reason for being in the restricted basement area or having a police bike and told him he was under arrest."

Gaye took off running, leading officers on a brief pursuit towards Harding Street.

He now faces a number of charges including larceny from a building, larceny over $1200, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and trespassing.
