NEWBURYPORT, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Police are investigating following the discovery of possible pipe bombs in a home under construction in Newburyport.

Both Police and Fire responded to the home on Purchase Street on Thursday afternoon, after contractors working on the home found a box containing what looked like four pipe bombs. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called in to x-ray the potential danger. Unfortunately the images didn't give officials a clear picture of whether or not the items were bombs or props.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the Bomb Squad will be removing the items from the home and taking them to a secluded area off Colby Farm Road to safely destroy the items," authorities said.

No one is currently living in the home and the owner of the property told authorities they were not aware of the box before it's discovery.
