BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - Boston University Campus police are out with a warning after authorities say "several concerning incidents have occurred on campus."
The first incident happened just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 24th. A BU Student told authorities a stranger had inappropriately touched them as they walked down the sidewalk along Commonwealth Avenue. The student said the sidewalk was quite busy at the time and they were unable to get a good look at the assailant.
Later in the day, BU police got another report from a BU student saying a stranger touched them inappropriately while riding the BU Bus on Commonwealth Avenue around 7:10 p.m. The student was able to get away from the stranger.
Police believe both incidents are related. While the victim from the first incident could not provide a suspect description, the victim of the second incident described their assailant as a Black man, roughly 30 years old, with a goatee beard.
Police are asking anyone with any information about the suspect or either incident to give them a call at 617-353-2121.
"BUPD has specially trained officers to investigate sexual assaults," BU Police said. "BU Police will make every effort to offer survivors a choice to speak with a male or female officer. In addition, the BU Police will help a survivor, who wishes to do so, make contact with helpful resources both on or off campus."
Officials are out with a number of safety precautions following the incidents. Authorities say use your common sense, never get into a vehicle with a person you do not know and if you are using a rideshare, make sure to double check the license plate. When it comes to the security of housing, police are reminding students to never prop doors open to your building, and never let anyone into the building unless you know them. And of course if alarm bells do start ringing and you feel uncomfortable in any way, BUPD is simply a call away.
