SHREWSBURY, Mass. (WBZNewsRadio) - Ski Ward in Shrewsbury is officially the first ski area to open for the season in North America and the east coast slopes are getting some praise from the Colorado Rockies.

Ski Ward opening earlier this week, offering $5 tickets to get in some October skiing. The early opening was part of Ski Ward's Fall Festival, which included pumpkin painting, a petting zoo for the kids and skiing on a small man-made slope.

Officials at Arapahoe Basin in Dillon, Colorado congratulated the Ski Ward on their opening saying they're offering "good, slippery fun" to skiers on this side of the country.

Arapahoe Basin has traditionally been the first in the country to welcome skiers for the season in Colorado and North America.

Ski Ward isn't just open for the season, they're hiring too. Tomorrow the Shrewsbury slopes will be hosting a job fair, looking to hire both full time and part time seasonal help.
