BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Those who love literature and literary history will be in luck! A rare excerpt from renowned New England author Henry David Thoreau’s masterpiece ‘Walden’ will be available for auction by a Boston based firm, and is now open for bidding.
The treasured manuscript was drafted by Thoreau in 1854 in Concord, Massachusetts and showcases an incredibly valuable piece of literary history. The manuscript also includes an original passage from the chapter ‘Sounds’, which contains Thoreau’s original annotations in both ink and pencil.
“Thoreau’s ‘Walden’ remains a seminal work of 19th-century American literature, exploring themes of nature, self-reliance, and simplicity,” said James Thorpe, author of ‘Gifts of Genius: Treasures of the Huntington Library,’ the enduring impact of ‘Walden’ continues to resonate within the American experience, cementing its place as a cornerstone of literary heritage,’’ he added.

The auction is being held by RR Auction’s in Boston, and other items from the Fine Autographs and Artifacts auction include handwritten letters from physicists Albert Einstein and theories by J. Robert Oppenheimer, and a rare accounting document signed by King Henry VII.
