BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Public hearings will take place this spring as the Department of Public Utilities considers a proposed series of National Grid price increases.
Under the proposal, prices would increase 13 percent over the next five years for "average residential" customers, according to National Grid.
Low-income customers would see a six percent increase.
Three hearings in March and three hearings in April will let local customers weigh in on the new prices.
October, 2024 would be the first month to see a price increase. "Average" customers would pay an extra $8.86 that month, according to National Grid.
Low-income customers would pay an extra $6.31 that month.

One local said customers in this economy will not appreciate the extra expenses.
"I don't think it's going to go over with a lot of people," he said.
The Department of Public Utilities will make a decision by the end of September.
