BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In Roslindale, there may be a new solution to the traffic problem at intersections of Centre and Walter streets in the form of an additional traffic light to help with the large amount of congestion which already exists there. The intersection is in a critical location, right in between the set of lights at the VFW Parkway and another set of traffic lights in front of the Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital. Some residents who live near the proposed project are opposed to the idea of the new lights.
“It seems like it’s a little overboard” said one resident.
Some were asked about the difficulties of driving in the area without the additional traffic light, and seemed to agree that the installation of the lights would just make things worse.
“[Driving around here] is terrible. [If] you try going through here on a Saturday? Forget it. [The addition of the extra set of lights] would make things a-lot worse,” another resident said.
For people who work near the intersection believe that the addition of another traffic light will just cause more congestion to an already congested area.
“It would definitely slow down traffic, there’s too many lights here already within a few feet of each other,” someone who works in the area said.
“I don’t necessarily understand what they are trying to do. If they had enough [data] to show that it would improve traffic and driver ability, then I would say go ahead, [but] if there’s already more intersections, then it’s just going to cause more headaches,” said another.
Final approvals from the city to begin the project are still pending.
