BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — You can find one of the contestants in Jeopardy's 2024 Tournament of Champions wearing a three-cornered hat along The Freedom Trail.

South Boston resident Sean McShane dons the persona of Sir Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford, while leading tourists down the trail and digging into one of his favorite trivia topics: Boston history. WBZ NewsRadio's Madison Rogers tagged along on part of a walking tour.

Sean won 3 games and more than $80,000 on the competitive quiz show Jeopardy back in December 2020, and he's become quite the local celebrity.

"The first time I was on Jeopardy I couldn't go anywhere around Southie without someone stopping me, like, 'You're the Jeopardy guy! You gotta meet my sister!'" says Sean. He says people don't often recognize him while leading tours, probably due to the full colonial get-up.

On the Tournament of Champions, Sean says he "ran up against a buzzsaw in the form of Troy Meyer" and was knocked out in the first round, but there are no hard feelings.

"There was a very strong sense of camaraderie [among the contestants]. The term people kept using to talk about it was 'nerd summer camp'."

Back at home, you might just be able to put your skills to the test against Sean at bar trivia in Southie.
