WESTWOOD Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — As the summer season fast approaches, the price of gas keeps climbing slowly ahead of the warmer months, which means more people will be out and about on the roads heading to various vacation and outdoor destinations. AAA said in a press release that New England fuel retailers are soon to get their first deliveries of summer blend fuel, which has a higher production cost and will subsequently cost gas stations more to buy from wholesalers. In addition to these costs, the price of crude oil is already on the rise, with costs up 10 percent over the past 30 days, according to AAA.
In Massachusetts, the average gas price is holding at $3.32 per gallon but is currently 13 cents than last month’s price of $3.19 a gallon. The price of gas is approximately 27 cents lower than the national average.

While the summer travel season hasn’t arrived just yet, there is a significant amount of travel on the roads during these past few days because of the solar eclipse.
“Record travel for the solar eclipse could bring a spike in gasoline demand at the same time regional inventories are tightening,” said Mark Schieldrop,” Spokesperson for AAA Northeast.
Additionally, a survey conducted on April 8 concluded that the current national average of gasoline in the United States is $3.59 a gallon.
