BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —   The final deadline for Massachusetts residents to file their tax returns is Wednesday, April 17, and according to the IRS, there is some $25 million in unclaimed tax refunds which date back to 2020 that some residents could claim.

There is one catch however, and it is that you will have to act soon, because under federal law, taxpayers have three years to claim tax refunds until it becomes the property of the U.S. Treasury, with an extra year added because of the pandemic.

The IRS has estimated that the median value of unclaimed returns is just under $1,000, and residents in the Bay State will have until May 17 of this year to claim any refunds they may be eligible to receive.
