BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Business owners around the country are hiring a Boston-based company to install beehives on their rooftops.
The company, Best Bees, handles hive installation, maintenance and honey jarring.
"All sorts of different sectors hire us because they want to repurpose the property into a place that's healthy for pollinators," Best Bees Creative Director Paige Mulhern said.
Best Bees collects data from each hive and sends it to scientists for use in their research on pollinator health and biodiversity.
Mulhern said many rooftops around Boston sport Best Bee hives unbeknownst to passersby.
Boston's Langham Hotel received a colony in 2023.
Langham Hotel Director of Public Relations Marissa Sullivan said the hotel will soon use honey from its beehive in drinks at the bar.
"We're super excited for our guests to be able to experience our own honey made on [the] property," Sullivan said.
