BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — In honor of Independence Day on Thursday, there will be plenty of firework celebrations around the state throughout the month.

There are over 100 celebration events happening and enough to attend wherever you are.

However, with this many firework shows going on, firework safety is also important. State fire officials have issued an illegal fireworks warning. Obtaining and displaying fireworks without a permit is not legal in Massachusetts. The Department of Fire Services is expecting to approve permits in the coming days and weeks.

For enjoying a safe and entertaining firework events, the Boston Pop July 4th Spectacular is celebrating its 50th anniversary at the Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade. Broadway singer Kelli O’Hara will be headlining, along with the Boston Pop Orchestra.

From the North Shore to the south there are also firework shows lighting up the sky. In Plymouth and Salem, the towns are putting on their firework shows on Thursday at 9pm. The cape is also making Thursday the day to celebrate.

If you can’t make the celebration on Thursday, don’t worry, there’s still a chance the following weekend. Franklin is holding its party on July 6th with a parade and firework show.

Due to severe weather and thunderstorm warnings, some cities have decided to cancel or postpone their firework celebration. Everett has postponed its display with the show rescheduled for July 14.
